How come the Military Police Corps is not represented as support. Each Herc Battery had a MP platoon. I was with Battery A, 2d Battalion, 56th Air defense Artillery 1977-1981.

Glad it was never necessary to use force in resolving the issues of deterance !!! I'd believe no matter, how much "power was available? it would have not prevented a tragdey. Perhaps histroy someday will find a reason for the war that never was.. "the Cold 1..? for now? it's an interesting site.. (have you seen ? Miltary parade?? the russian vershion.. todays aromor, at a very "reasonable price?? it's the only thing that worries me?? the sale of weapon's and to who they go?
Just checking in to see if any old friends were on the roster for HHB (DSP) 5th Missile Bn, 6th ADA. I trained as 23N20 at Redstone Arsenal and served from 11/69 to 8/71 as a Sp-4 at the small airstrip in Hoppstadten, outside of Baumholder. We were just down the strasse from the 98th General Hospital base at Neubrucke. Does anybody remember "Happy Valley", the "12:31 Club" or the "Ordnance Bomb" painted on the flor of the old hanger building? How about the "Four Daughters", "Dindorfs" or "Hoehn's Gasthaus"? Do you remember riding on "Old Smokey" to Saarbrucken or Frankfurt? Did you drink the "Ratzenputz" as an initiation to DSP 5/6?
Out of curiousity, I did a search on ARADCOM. It was a pleasent surprise to view the results. I enlisted in the Army in July of 1962 and served three years in the Detroit-Toledo (B 2 517th) and Milwaukee(A 3 59th) areas. Will be spending more time browsing the information online and hope to contact some of the good people I met.

Stationed at Battery'C' Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland as a Sentry Dog Handler from April 67 to Sep 68, better know as "Flip". That base is now a training center for the local police departments and is certainly not as impressive as it was in the late 60's. A lot of the guys names slip my mine as time moves on but I hope you all are well.....Good memories, Flip
Just surfed in. When I was a boy many years ago (approx 1970's) in Scotch Plains New Jersey, I use to play in what I was told was an abandoned Nike missle base located in the near by hills. When was this operational and for how long? The parks and recreation of Union County have now placed a horse stable where the launch area was located. Thank for any info.
P.S. I was a SP4 in the Military Police, 1978 to 1982.

Great website. As my son prepares to go into the Marines in July, I am reminded of my service as a draftee from June,72 thru June,74. I was headed for Ft. Hancock after basic, but ended up serving 20 months at HHB, 16th ADA in Highlands, NJ. Sorry to hear there is no trace left of the HQ on the hill. I'll not be able to visit there with my son, however the pictures take me back.

I was in the Nike Hercules Missile System from 1965 through 1972. Trained at Redstone Arsenal Alabama as Nike Test Equipment Operator & Repairman (22L20). Served in the 166th Ordnance Company in Alaska and the 30th Ordnance Company in Korea. Spent most of my 8 years as an Instructor at the Missile School at Redstone Arsenal.
Served Nike Hercules MOS. 22M/22G Redstone Arsenal, Alabama Co B, Sch Bde., USAMMCS as Instructor 1967-1969, 524th Ord Co, 1st Bn, 43 FA, 87th ADA, Ft. Richardson, Alaska 1969-1973. Again Instructor Duty MOS. 22M/22N at Co. B, Sch Bde., Redstone Arsenal 1973-1973 then retired. Assigned Reserve in Secondary MOS 68H. Was a Raytheon Field Engineer teaching MOS. 46D IHAWK in Theran, Iran 1974-1977. I have now been retired longer than I served on active duty, 26 Years.
I was 2nd Lieutenant in the 51 Belgian Air Force unit in Blankenheim -Germany. I remember long hours waiting the enemy with some good men of the 43rd USA Artillery Detachment in 1987.
