Hiya guys,
I served at homestead afb from 72-74 right in everglades natl.park. Lived in Homestead off post with some off the best people I ever met. Ashley Byrum from Whites cross N.C., Ken Higgins from NYC (sgt.pooh) Mike Casper NYC. And my brother of another color Earnest Heard from Hotlanta. From there I was sent to Hardheim (hard times) Germany to finish my time. Thinking of Stanley Greyson (gravestone) Franklin Faircloth from Georgia, Eugene (meatball) Desgranges from Rhode Island. You guys read this e-mail me and say hi. Oh yeah cant forget Ortiz (pineapple) from Hawaii.

Great site. Pleased to find your site & view the many that have signed in. I served with Btry. "A", 3rd. Bn., 61st Arty., Loring AFB, Limestone, Maine: from July '58 thru Mar. '61. Made several trips to Ft. Bliss, Texas for conversion trng. from Ajax to Herc., & ASP three years. Good old McGregor Range, many good memories. I was Asst. Sec. Chief & E-5 grade. Wonder if anyone could tell me what happened to our site, Btry. A was at Caswell, Me. Any replies appreciated. Found only one listing for this area, Irvin "Bud" Myers who was with an ordinance detachment stationed at Loring AFB.

I was an original member of the 162nd Ord Det. We deployed to Germany in 1957. I was with them from 57 to 60 when I returned to CONUS. Am very interested in finding some of the personnel of the 162nd during that time frame.

Wow, does this bring back some memories! I was just wondering if I could find any information about my old unit, the 198th Ord Det (GMDS), and stumbled on your web page. What a great find. The internet is a wonderful thing.

I'll definitely bookmark this to check it out often. I hope I can stir up a couple of other guys to sign in.

Just wanted to update e-mail address in case any old buds are out there. Question: when did patches change from polar bear & north star to mountains & sword for those in 524th Ord. Co. at Fort Rich in Alaska? Noticed change in Co. picture in the picture site.

In Aston Township, Delaware County, Penna. there was once a NIKE command and control center. The launch battery was (is) located on Rt. 322 in Chichster Township, also in Delaware County Pa. In 1969, an elementary school (Pennell) was erected on the Aston Command center, and still exists today.
CAN ANYONE FILL IN THE BLANKS? Stories, pictures, etc?

My curiousity is getting the best of me.

Thanks
Mike, Raleigh NC

I served in the Army from 1969 - 1972 as a 24U20. After Herc. school at Ft. Bliss, I was stationed at two duty stations. First, with Custodial Team #1, Batt. D, 4th Bn., 251st Arty., supporting the California National Guard site on the Ft. MacArthur, Ca. Upper Reservation (11/69 - 10/70, rank Sp5). Second, with Team D, 501st U.S.A. Arty. Det., SASCOM, supporting a German Air Force Herc. site in Westerberg, Germany (3/71 - 1/72, Sp5). Both were great duty assignments, especially considering the state of the world at that time in our history.

I come back to this site occasionally, as it brings back memories thirty years gone and half a world away. It seems that every time I come here, I remember something I had thought long forgotten. Sometimes it's a face or a name, sometimes it's a memory as vivid as though it happened yesterday. My heartfelt thanks to you, Doyle for keeping this site and the memories alive.

I was stationed at Camp Kilmer from 1962 to 1964. I was the Maintenance Officer and for a short time the CO of the Combined Field Maintenance Shop. We provided third and forth level support for the Nike Sites from the Jersey Shore up into New York. We also had a Warhead Support Team in the Organization. Like to hear from anyone who worked at Kilmer.
