My name is Jason Raidbard, I am the intern for the Village of Vernon Hills, Illinois and am working on an assignment to create a memorial piece on are closed down NIKE Site, the Libertyville Training Area. The site is currently being reconverted into recreational fields, but one of the magazine will be left along with a marker to serve as a reminder of those who serves in our Nation's wars.
I am trying to find more historical info on our NIKE base so I can write a piece on this site.
Any help is appreciated.

I was a medic at D-2-562 Arty Alaska from July 67 to Oct 69. Antbody know the whereabouts of Dave Slater the civilian microwave dude??? It was real and it was nice but it weren't real nice and I wouldn't change it for the world. Sam? Vic? Nick? Smitty? SP/4 Larry Jones? are you out there??

This was the best duty any G.I. could ask for. When I reflect back where I could have spent my obligation; those of us who ended up on these sites can count our blessings. Good people and many great times.
Webmaster's Note:Bill attended the ADA School at Ft. Bliss, Texas and was trained as a 24Q20 Nike-Herc Fire Control Mechanic with rank of E-3 from Nov 69 to Sept 70. He then served at site CL-02 in Battery D, 3rd Battalion, 65th ADA, Bratenahl, Ohio in the IFC Area - MTR, TTR, TRR Maint. (MOS 24Q20 Nike-Herc Fire Control Mechanic) with rank of SP/4 from Sept 70 to Apr 71 and then at site BA-18 in Battery C, 4th Battalion, 1st ADA, Edgewood Arsensal, MD. with same MOS and rank of SP/5 from May 71 to Mar 72.
Stationed B-6-43, (Nike-Herc) Louisville, Nebraska, from April 1965 to June 1966 (site deactivated). Stationed F-4-44 (Nike-Herc) Korea, from July 1966 to August 1967. Our base was just outside Inchon, in the village of Moon-Hak-Dong.

Webmaster's Note:Ronald served at B Battery, 6th Battalion, 43 Artillery with and MOS of 62C20 and rank of SP4. While at F Battery, 4th Battalion, 44 Artillery his MOS was also 62C20 and his rank was SP5.
Served from 1979 to 1983 DSB 2/52 ADA Ft Bliss, TX. ETSed as a SP4 24Q Nike-Herc Fire Control Mechanic. Was there when the Army declassified the Hercules missile system in 1983. Spent last few months with Range Command, McGregor Firing/Training Range, NM.

Was member of original 198th Ord. Det. which set up operations in Van Nuys to support Artillery units around Los Angeles. We set up shop in what had previously been the operating rooms of a former veterans parplegic hospital. We reported to Fort MacArthur Ca.
Webmaster's Note:George served with the 198th from 10/54 to 05/55.
Was assigned to NFBU defense, 1960-1962, with 2d Arty Bn. Served as Battery Control Officer, but sent to Missile Master school prior to Battery assignment. Served as Tactical Monitor at Lockport, NY Air Force Station. Would really like to hear from others who shared that experience.
